Santa arrives at Fountain Park in Rock Hill with a song

Santa and his reindeer may need to refresh their flying skills, but his spirit and singing voice were in holiday form as he made his first official appearance in Rock Hill.

Tuesday’s visit almost didn’t happen as his reindeer veered off course over Beech Mountain when they saw a herd of deer. The sled bounced off a tree and Santa almost fell out, hurting his back.

So instead of a sleigh, Santa made his entrance into the new Fountain Park escorted by police and firefighters and riding in the back of the Piedmont Medical Center ambulance.

Santa’s evening entrance into the city was a first for him, as was his visit to Fountain Park, which will be officially dedicated on Saturday morning.

Santa and Mother Goose joined singers from the Rosewood Elementary School chorus, and the Saluda Trail Middle School Lady Cats of Harmony to open Rock Hill’s ChristmasVille celebrations with song.
