Bitter cold expected, possible snow expected through the week

As the Carolinas wait for road crews and the sun to melt the ice from Monday night’s winter storm, more winter weather is expected throughout the week which might mean the ice sticks around for a while.

On Tuesday, temperatures are supposed to get above freezing, the National Weather Service says, but only for a few hours before dipping down the to mid-20s overnight Tuesday, which could cause refreezing on roads.

Wednesday brings a chance for morning rain and snow showers, although any snow is not supposed to accumulate significantly. The real issue comes Wednesday night with the cold, when temperatures are expected to be in the single digits with negative wind chill values.

Temperatures are not expected to get above freezing again until Saturday.
