York woman, 37, who died in 2-car crash identified, others injured

The passenger in one of two vehicles involved in a York County crash on Celanese Road near Rock Hill has died, police said.

Wendy Moya-Mendez, 37, of York died at the scene of the crash, according to York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Monday near the intersection of S.C. 161, Celanese and Mount Gallant roads, about two miles west of Rock Hill.

The vehicle carrying Moya-Mendez collided with another vehicle on Celanese Road, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle in which Moya-Mendez died is a man from York. He was injured and taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Miller said.

The driver of the other vehicle, also a man from York, was transported by a private vehicle to Piedmont Medical Center, Miller said.

No charges have been filed, Miller said.
