One dead, one hurt in 2-vehicle York County crash near Rock Hill, troopers say

One person was killed and another was hurt Monday in a fatal crash in York County, troopers said.

The wreck happened around 7:15 a.m. on U.S. 21 at the intersection of Pantry Road two miles south of Rock Hill, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2005 Mercury Marquis stopped at the stop sign at Pantry Road and U.S. 21 failed to yield when entering U.S. 21, Miller said. The car collided with a 2001 Honda SUV that was heading south on U.S. 21, Miller said.

The driver of the Mercury was airlifted by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where the person died, Miller said.

The driver of the Honda SUV was injured and taken to the hospital by emergency medical workers, Miller said.

The name of the person who died has not yet been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
