Rescue teams from North and South Carolina recovered a body in Lake Wylie early Monday morning, according to The Herald’s news partner, WSOC-TV.
Witnesses said two men jumped into the lake Sunday from the Buster Boyd Bridge around 2 a.m. One resurfaced and the other one did not, according to witnesses, who then called 911.
Police said the victim is a 19-year-old camp counselor at Camp Thunderbird. He was with one other counselor at the time, an official said.
His body was pulled from the water before 4:30 a.m.
The YMCA said the other counselor is not physically injured.
WSOC spoke to a man fishing off the bank at the time of the incident.
"They said 'we going to jump off the bridge.' They were just having a good time, I guess. They came up the rocks, they ran down the sidewalk, set up on the edge of the bridge and they both jumped. You could hear the splash," Randy Ashford said.
