Rock Hill’s Platinum Cuts barbershop is no longer a bridesmaid, after the shop won the award for best barbershop at last weekend’s Steve Harvey Ford Neighborhood Awards.
The shop is an institution on Rock Hill’s Saluda Street and has a history of community and civic involvement, including giving free haircuts to schoolchildren and other activities.
The shop will again give out free haircuts Aug. 17.
The Harvey awards, hosted by entertainer Steve Harvey, are coveted honors that show community activism in service, business, philanthropy, social and justice causes, and more.

The last three years, Platinum Cuts was one of the finalists for the best barbershop award, but this year the shop came out on top after nationwide voting.
The shop was up against barbershops from larger cities.
Owner Adrian “Ace” McCrorey called winning the award a great achievement not just for him and the shop but for Rock Hill.
McCrorey praised the thousands who voted for the shop.
Platinum Cuts also operates in Fort Mill.
The shop was founded 17 years ago with free haircuts for children and has become a social and civic icon in Rock Hill.
“We have always tried to show that great things can be accomplished, that success can be achieved by everyone,” McCrorey said.
“We are so thankful to all the people who helped us.”
McCrorey said he and his supporters will hold a community celebration in the coming weeks.
