Broken pipes have Rock Hill’s Fountain Park down to single jet
Ongoing trouble with Rock Hill’s biggest fountain has water flow down to a single jet.
City officials say the namesake of Fountain Park is experiencing problems related to mud that clogged up the fountain and required it to be shut down and drained for several days last month.
Since then, the 50,000-gallon fountain has been refilled. The company that built the nearly $1 million fountain, W.P. Law, has been working to get all of the geysers back in working order.
City spokeswoman Katie Quinn said cracking to the fountain bowl and several broken pipes are responsible for the trouble.
“W.P. Law crews capped the pipes and cleaned the fountain bowl in order to have the fountain filled for ChristmasVille and the holiday season,” she said.
It’s unclear when the fountain will be fully operational again. Quinn said the contractor will make full repairs in January, after the park’s holiday decorations come down. That work may include crews having to rebuild part of the fountain bowl.
“We expect all repairs to be covered under the fountain’s warranty,” Quinn said.
The $6 million Fountain Park opened last year with high-power fountain jets and pumps that can blast water more than 120 feet in the air. The park has since hosted popular outdoor events such as Rock Hill’s “Food Truck Friday.”
