The Rock Hill High School class of 1981 donated all of its reunion money — $1,500 — to Emily’s House homeless shelter. And rival Northwestern is now involved in fund raising for the Rock Hill shelter.

One member of the Rock Hill class of 1981, Paul Elkins, is the father of the late Emily Elkins, the teen who died last year after a battle with cancer. Her dream before she died was to open a homeless shelter and that wish became true on Saturday. At Emily’s House grand opening, classmates presented a check for $1,500 to the shelter.

Northwestern alumni have now joined in the effort, too, as through social media the alumni of both schools are coordinating giving to help the shelter for homeless children and families.

The shelter raised more than $5,000 Saturday as hundreds of people attended the fund raiser. For information visit emilyshouse.org.
