Softball fans brave the heat for Rock Hill tournament

Despite temperatures reaching into the mid-90s and relative temperatures making it feel close to 98 degrees, folks in Rock Hill and Fort Mill braved the heat for sport and relaxation Saturday.

Canoers and kayakers at the Anne Springs Close Greenway paddled away at Lake Haigler, while others hiked through the forest and picnicked under a bright blue sky with clouds large enough for brief spells of shade.

At the Winthrop Softball Complex, families watching their teenage daughters throw fast pitches and slide into dusty bases, huddled under umbrellas and tents, some propping up their bare feet against the fences and oversized coolers at the Carolina Cardinals Late Summer Showcase tournament.
