YCHS softball team defeats Rock Hill

YORK -- The York Comprehensive High girls' softball team improved to 6-2 for the season and 5-2 in Region 3-AAAA following last week's 10-5 win over Rock Hill.

YCHS hurler Lauren Donald picked up the win for the Lady Cougars.

Brandi Neely and Kayla Ramsey each had three hits.

The YCHS girls fell to Nation Ford 4-0 earlier in the week.

Donald had two hits in three at-bats for York.

Donald, a senior and key performer on the mound and at the plate, praised freshman Neely for a steady job behind the plate this season.

"Brandi is a mini-me with her aggressiveness," Donald said. "Sometimes you feel the right vibes with a new player."

Head coach Nickie Templeton said Neely is learning under fire.

"She's doing a good job," Templeton said. "Varsity ball is a faster pace. There's a lot going on behind the plate.

"Brandi's learning to read situations, to know when to go o the mound to talk to Lauren."

With so many newcomers in the lineup, Templeton has been pleased with the team's progress.

"The glue is starting to dry," she said. "We could be a sleeper in the region. It's exciting."

The Lady Cougars are competing in the Azalea Tournament at Summerville this week, where they will face strong competition.
