York's boys basketball coach resigns

Kendall McCarter, head varsity basketball coach at York Comprehensive High School, has submitted a letter of resignation from his coaching and teaching duties. He has requested that the resignation be accepted and become effective immediately.

Coach McCarter has been employed as a Physical Education for the past 11 years beginning at H.C. Johnson Middle School and then most recently at York Middle School. In 2005, he was named head varsity basketball coach at YCHS. In recent years, McCarter has lead the Cougar team to region playoffs in Class AAA competition and Class AAAA.

McCarter is a graduate of Winthrop University and received his National Board Certification for teaching in 2001.

In a statement, York school district personnel director Maria Duncan said: "York School District One is appreciative of Coach McCarter’s time and efforts in working with students both on and off of the basketball court. He has been a positive role model during his employment. The district wishes him success in his future endeavors.''
