More than 1,500 help clean Lake Wylie during Riversweep

More than 1,500 people volunteered their time Saturday to clean Lake Wylie and its tributaries of assorted trash at the 10th annual Lake Wylie Riversweep.

Volunteers walked the banks and rode boats to remove the trash. Plastic bottles recovered during the sweep will be recycled by York County.

Among the volunteers were members of the Rock Hill High School wrestling team and a group of volunteers from Winthrop University. Both groups helped clean the shoreline at Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill.

The event is sponsored by the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, the Wylie Covekeepers and the Lake Wylie Marine Commission.
