South Carolina House of Representatives member Tommy Pope (Dist. 47) was recognized Feb. 21 by the American Legion Department of South Carolina as the Outstanding Legislator of the Year at a State House ceremony before the General Assembly session.
The annual award is given to one House member and to one Senate member. Sen. Jake Knotts of Lexington (Dist. 23) was selected as the outstanding Senate member.
Pope and Knotts were recognized for their years of outstanding service to their community, state and nation. The award was presented by American Legion National Commander Fang A. Wong, who appeared before the General Assembly to give his annual address.
“It is humbling to be honored by those who have given so much to this country. My contributions pale in comparison to their deeds of service,” Pope said.
