A Clover man is accused of beating a woman in front of their child after he broke into her York apartment early Tuesday morning, police say.
Dantavious Thompson, 25, is charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, first-degree burglary, malicious injury to property, pointing and presenting a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to police documents. He is being held at Moss Justice Center.
A 22-year-old woman was in her Jefferson Street apartment when Thompson broke in about 5 a.m., according to a York police report. Their infant son also was at the apartment.
The woman couldn’t remember how he broke in, but told police he beat her as she shielded her son, the report states. She ran to the bathroom, but he overpowered her and continued to hit her with his fists.

Thompson then pulled a gun from his pants, pointed it at her and said, “I will kill you,” the report states. He also threatened to take their child.
Officers arrived on scene and found Thompson standing outside, with a gun in his hand and blood on his clothes, the report states. Officers drew their weapons and asked him to put the gun down, which he did.
The woman had bruising and swelling on her head, and her clothes were torn, the report states. There was also blood on the woman. EMS treated on her scene before taking her to Piedmont Medical Center.
