One man drowned in a McConnells neighborhood pond Saturday afternoon after the boat he and another man were fishing in overturned, throwing them both into the water, officials say.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast identified the man who drowned as Raimon Gordon, 37, of Rock Hill.
At about 1:30 p.m., emergency officials responded to the area near U.S. 321, off Polly Circle, where two campers onshore said it seemed the men were having trouble with the boat’s motor, said Cotton Howell, director of York County’s Office of Emergency Management.
The boat shifted and turned over, he said, and both men were tossed into the water.

The campers, a man and woman, rushed into the water to try to help. They managed to save one man, but by the time they reached Gordon, Howell said, their efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
The campers “put themselves in a lot of danger to” rescue the fishermen, Howell said. “They’re very upset about the fact that they were unable to save him.”
Gast said an exact cause of death won’t be known until a toxicology report is complete.
