A York County inmate serving a murder sentence is accused of punching an officer Thursday, police say.
A detention officer was handing out medications early Thursday morning, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report. As he was writing on a piece of paper, an inmate slipped out of his cell and punched the officer in the face, causing him to hit the ground.
The inmate then backed into his cell and shut the door to hide from other officers, the report states.
The detention officer had slight redness on his face, but was otherwise fine, the report states.
Inmate Jamar Lavert Belk, 23, of Charlotte was charged with third-degree assault and battery.
