YORK -- York residents have more to tests their taste buds with this summer thanks to a couple of new dining options that recently opened.
Earlier this month, Perch's Seafood & Chicken opened in the old McDonald's building at 708 E. Liberty St., and in May, Sekai Japan, a Japanese dine-in and take-out restaurant, opened at the corner of West Liberty Street and U.S. 321.
Perch's serves a fairly wide range of food ranging from baby flounder and catfish to barbecue plates and hushpuppies.

John Demesthas, part owner of the restaurant, is also part owner of Ouzos Pizza in Rock Hill.
"When we go to towns, mainly we see what the town needs and then we decide what kind of menu we're going to put in there," he said. "York needed another seafood and chicken restaurant."
The restaurant is a mix between a sit down family restaurant and fast-food, he said.
"You order at the counter and the food gets brought out to you," he said.
So far, business has been good with the majority of people ordering from the seafood side of the menu, he said.
Perch's is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 684-7807.
Sekai Japan has also seen early success since opening, said owner Peter Giang.
"The customers love it," he said.
He said he also was trying to offer variety for York residents.
"I see in this area, they don't have a Japanese restaurant," Giang said. "That's why I go down here and then I try to open one."
Giang does most of the cooking himself. The menu includes a variety of Teriyaki and Hibachi meals, as well as shrimp, salmon and scallops.
The restaurant is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They're closed Saturday. For more information, call 684-3797.
