Master Gardener program taking applications
YORK COUNTY The Master Gardener program for York, Chester and Lancaster counties is accepting applications for the next class, starting Aug. 5.
Classes will be 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through Nov. 11 at the York County Clemson Extension office, 120 N. Congress St., in York.

For those who cannot attend weekday classes, there is a statewide online Master Gardener class offered through Clemson University.
Libraries to be closed Friday
YORK COUNTY All York County Library branches will be closed Friday for Independence Day. In addition, the the Rock Hill library will close at 4 p.m. Thursday. Other libraries are in Fort Mill, Clover, York and Lake Wylie. Details: www.yclibrary.org.
Garden Friday to be July 11
ROCK HILL July’s first Friday in the Garden will be 11 a.m. July 11 because the Glencairn Garden Learning Center will be closed Friday.
Clemson Extension Agent Paul Thompson will lead a session on “Turfgrass Insects and Diseases” at the center, 835 Edgemont Ave.
Friday in the Garden is a free public service of the York County Master Gardeners, Clemson Extension Service and the Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.
POP Club welcomes members
YORK The Heart2Heart Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on raising awareness about heart disease, has joined Market at Inman Farms in York to launch the Power of Produce Club.
The club is open to the public and will give children $2 in tickets to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables and food plants and seeds. POP Club will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 11 at The Market at Inman Farms, 1101 Black Highway.
The POP Club is a nationally recognized children’s program started at the Oregon City Farmers Market in May 2011 to empower children to make healthy food choices and introduce them to where their food originates.
Volunteers needed for York food delivery

Summer reading program signups underway
YORK COUNTY Online registration is underway for the York County libraries summer reading program. The free program runs through Aug. 1 for all ages.
