Sports briefs, Oct. 2: Clover queen to be crowned

Homecoming queen to be crowned at Clover-Fort Mill game

The Clover High School homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime of Friday’s Clover-Fort Mill football game at Memorial Stadium.

CHS homecoming activities include a powder puff game 6 p.m. Thursday at the track field. Admission is $5.

A pep rally, which will showcase the homecoming court, will be at 2:40 p.m. Friday at the high school.

A motorcade from the CHS parking lot to Memorial Stadium will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday.

A homecoming dance with a Vegas theme will be 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 on the ATC practice field.

YMS football teams split games with Dutchman Creek

The York Middle School seventh grade football team defeated Dutchman Creek 8-0, while the middle school eighth grade squad lost to the Dutchman Creek team, 45-0.

York Middle School Student of the Week honors went to Jamon Byers and Trevor Lucente.

Lady Cougar basketball tryout dates announced

York Comprehensive High School varsity and junior varsity basketball tryouts will be Nov. 3 to 5.

The Nov. 3 and Nov. 5 tryouts will be from 3:45 to 6 p.m. The Nov. 4 tryouts will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

All practices will be held at the YCHS main and auxiliary gyms.

Participants must have parents’ permission and athletic physical on file with the school’s athletic department.

Rock Hill defeats YCHS girls’ tennis

The York Comprehensive High School girls’ tennis team was beaten by the Rock Hill Lady Bearcats 6-0 at home.

“Not a victory, but a definite improvement from when we faced them earlier in the season,” said YCHS head tennis coach Rusty Graham.

Individual scores: No. 1 singles, Heather Bomar, 1-6, 0-6; No. 2 singles, Kaitlin Pruitt, 1-6, 1-6; No. 3 singles, Kaitlyn Felske, 2-6, 1-6; No. 4 singles, Katherine Wilkins, 3-6, 3-6; No. 5 singles, Mikayla Madden, 6-7, 5-7TB, 4-6; No. 2 doubles, Marley Littleton and Gracie Arnold, 3-6, 3-6.

The York Comprehensive High School Defensive Players of the Week are:

Defensive Skilled: Patch Edwards, OLB: tackles total 14 (four solo, four primary, six assists), one third-down stop.

Defensive Lineman: Devionne Chalk, DE: 11 tackles (two solo, five primaries, four assists), one batted pass, one big hit, one tackle for a loss.
