County cross-country Oct. 18 in York

YORK The York County Coed Cross Country Meet will begin 9 a.m. Oct. 18 at York Comprehensive High School.

The Region III-AAAA Cross Country Meet will be 4:45 p.m. Oct. 22 at Clover High School.

The York and Clover boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams will participate in both events.

Cougar Players of the Game announced

YORK The York Comprehensive High School Players of the Week have been announced for the Gaffney game.

Offensive Player of the Week, Kyron Schrouder; Offensive Lineman, Danny Warren; Specialist, Daurice Simpson; Defensive Lineman, Luc Greene; and Defensive Skill, Zach Thrift.

Saluda Trail defeats York Middle 8th-graders

YORK Saluda Trail defeated the York Middle School eighth-grade team 50-38.

The Cougars are 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Students of the Week were Ethan Causey, Adam Whitesides and Alan Whitesides.

“We are very proud of these students,” said head coach Jerry Kemp.

YMS seventh-, eighth-grade girls’ basketball tryouts

YORK The York Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball tryouts will be 4-6 p.m. Nov. 5, 6 and 7.

Both groups will try out together at the York Intermediate School gym. Girls must have a current athletic physical.

Cougars back to receive Panthers award

YORK York Comprehensive High School running back Thomas Wilkerson will receive the 2014 Carolina Panthers Community Captain Award at the Panthers-Tampa Bay game 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at Bank of America Stadium.

The program recognizes outstanding young leaders who have excelled on and off the field.
