Claflin gospel choir to perform Feb. 15
YORK The York/St. James charge and the Clover parish of the United Methodist Church will host a free performance of the Claflin University Gospel Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at the McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.
The choir is made up of young adults from different family backgrounds who want to share their ministry. The performance is being offered with support from the Rock Hill district of the UMC.
Hillcrest plans hot dog, bake sale benefit

YORK Hillcrest Baptist Church, Hillcrest Road, York, will have a hot dog and bake sale benefit for Clyde Breakfield from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Sharon Fire Department.
The bake sale will begin at 8 a.m. and hot dog sales will begin at 11 a.m. Plates are $7 for two hot dogs, chips, beans and drink.
First Baptist plans Fat Tuesday supper, soup lunch
YORK The youth of First Baptist Church, 102 S. Congress St., York, will host a Fat Tuesday pancake supper at 6 p.m. Feb. 17.
The cost is $6 per person, and children younger than 3 can eat for free. The meal, to be held in the church fellowship hall, will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, grits, coffee, juice and milk.
Donations will go toward the children’s mission fund.
The church also will host a soup luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 to raise money for its Stars of Hope team, which is participating in the American Cancer Society’s Western York County Relay for Life.
Donations will be accepted for the soup lunch, and there will be a $1 dessert table.
St. Paul UMC plans oyster stew
CLOVER St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1550 St. Paul Church Road, Clover, will host an oyster stew from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
The event will include oyster stew, vegetable soup, hot dogs, desserts, and drinks. Donations will be accepted. Details, call 803-222-7426
Ramah women plan poor man’s supper
YORK The women of Ramah Presbyterian Church, 980 Ramah Church Road, York, are sponsoring a poor man’s supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.
The menu includes pinto beans, cabbage, soups, cornbread and desserts. The cost is $7 adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 12. Eat-in or carry-out is available.
Church readies for Stephen Ministers class
LAKE WYLIE River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road, will commission the initial class of 14 Stephen Ministers at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Feb. 15 services.
The church is in the process of identifying potential care receivers from the Lake Wylie and Clover areas to partner with Stephen Ministers, a one-to-one lay caring ministry in congregations using the Stephen series system. Stephen Ministry congregations equip, train and empower lay caregivers to provide high quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to hurting people.
The church also holds Wednesday Family Night through May.
Adult studies begin at 5:15 p.m., followed by dinner in the gym at 6:15 p.m. with children and adult classes afterward. Dinner costs $6 for adults and $3 for children.
Family night is open to the community and the first dinner is free.
