CJHS volleyball

CLOVER -- Clover Junior High's volleyball team played Rawlingson Road Middle School on Sept. 23. Both the seventh and eight grade teams lost their matches in two games. The teams played Dutchman Creek Middle School on Sept. 25, with the eighth grade winning with games of 32-30 and 25-12. The seventh grade won their match in two games with scores of 25-12 and 25-22. Eighth-grade players noted for their outstanding play for serving, setting and spiking are Haley Hendry, Casey Flanagan, Lauren Richardson, Jordan Tepfenhart, Marlee Adams, Jordan Sowell and Kristina King. The eighth-grade record stands at 3-3 as of Monday. Seventh-grade outstanding players are Myranda Thomas, Brittany Rhinehart and Brooke Rhinehart. The seventh-grade record stands at 4-2. Both teams played Tuesday at Gold Hill, but results weren't available before press deadline.

Hall of Fame ceremony set for Oct. 10

YORK -- The York School District One Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held during halftime of the York-Gaffney football game Oct. 10 at Pratt Field.

A pregame drop-in sponsored by the YCHS Athletic Booster Club will be held at the school's media center from 6 to 7 p.m.

Punt, pass and kick winners

YORK -- York Parks and Recreation recently held its Punt, Pass, and Kick football skills competition. Winners from each age division are:

8/9 year olds: First -- Tyrese Burris; Second -- Dolton Small; Third -- Chase Sutphin

10/11 Year Olds: First-- Ebasion Moore; Second -- Austin Edington; Third -- Brandon Garvin

12/13 Year Olds: First -- Adam Abdussalam; Second -- Shemar Wade; Third -- Luc Greene

YCHS golfers defeat South Pointe, Clover

YORK -- The York Comprehensive High School girls' golf team improved to 5-1-1 for the season with a win over South Pointe last week.

The match was played in windy and wet conditions at Spring Lake Country Club.

Team scores were YCHS 190 and South Point 224. Co-medalists for the match were Katie Childers and Cyndi Smith with scores of 45. Kristen Moose shot 47.

Adding to the YCHS team score was Katie Childress with a score of 53.

The Lady Cougars defeated Clover in an earlier match by a score of 208-233.

Smith was a medalist with a score of 47. Childers shot 49, Moose 55 and Childress 57.

The YCHS girls conclude regular season play Monday at 4 p.m. against Nation Ford at Spring Lake Country Club.
