Clover High School honors fall sports awards participants

CLOVER -- Clover High School athletes were recognized for a successful fall sports season during an awards ceremony held last week.

CHS athletic director Carroll Hester noted that the girls' tennis team, coached by Renee Farris and Phil Wingard, won the region championship for the fourth year in a row.

Coach Shea Hall's volleyball team advanced to the playoffs and Nash Lyles' cross country teams competed successfully in the region once again.

"We had a real good fall season," commented Hester. "We're excited about the number of participants.

"Our coaches do a great job with the kids."

Hester said Clover High School continues to place much emphasis on the classroom performance of student-athletes.

"We're proud of the number of academic awards presented," he said.

All student-athletes making the A-B honor roll were recognized at the awards ceremony.

Awards recipients icluded:

Girls tennis: Most Improved, Sarah Cusack; Lady Eagle Award, Katie Sanderson; Most Outstanding Player, Kate Stewart; Coaches Award, Emily Sparrow; JV Award, Caroline Hester.

Girls Golf: Most Improved, Paige Ferguson; Coaches Award, Erica Harper; Blue Eagle Award/MVP Award, Kirstie Nugent.

Swimming: Girls team High Point Scorer, Alyssa Simpson; boys High Point Scorer, Ian Brown; girls' Blue Eagle Award, Rachel Hester; boys' Blue Eagle Award, Ian Brown; girls' Most Improved, Stephanie Brown; boys' Most Improved, Braxton Shuler.

Volleyball: Best Offensive Player, Casey Killian; Best Defensive Player, GeorgeAnna Westmoreland; Hustle Award, Stephanie Dover; Most Improved Player, Caroline Schill.

JV Volleyball: Best Offense, Lindsay Richardson; Best defense, Jasmine Davis; Hustle Award, Leah Bennett.

Cross Country: Most Valuable, Mick Francis; Most Improved, Thomas Honeyman; Coaches Award, Luke Elston; Blue Eagle Award, Carl Schaefer; Most Valuable, Grace Thompson; Most Improved, Carley Schaefer; Coaches Award, Kaitlin Pubentz; Blue Eagle Award, Ellen Westmoreland.

Ninth-grade football: Best Offense, Devin Adams; Best Defense, Andy Sandridge; Coaches Award, Kong Chang.

Cheerleading: Most Spirited Cheerleader, Genesis Darden; Soaring Eagle Stunting Award, Kayla Kirkpatrick; Eagle Pride Honor Award, Kristen Dover; Clover Cheerleading Leadership Award, Jamia Howard; Blue Eagle Cheerleading Award, Kristi Antunes.

Blue Eagle varsity and junior varsity football players will be recognized at a date to be determined.
