York -- York Comprehensive High School athletic director Steve Boyd praised student-athletes for extending their commitment beyond the field of play during the Fall Sports Awards Ceremony held just before the holiday break in the school cafeteria.
Boyd said YCHS had 150 athletes participating in community service projects that included ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, a food drive for PATH, reading to elementary students, Adopt-A Highway and Cheer for Children.
"We're proud of our athletes' community service involvement as well as the awards presented to them," he said.
Boyd said he was equally proud of the cumulative 3.0 GPA maintained by the fall sports athletes.

Though YCHS is the smallest 4A school in the state, Boyd said the kids are learning to compete.
"We want our players to learn the value of team work and leadership," he said. "We have good coaches that are role models to the athletes, teaching them to become good citizens in life."
Boyd said there were 250 fall sports participants, with eight athletes making all-region and the girls golf to advancing to the playoffs.
Boyd encouraged parents of athletes to support the YCHS Athletic Booster Club.
He said boosters established a $34,000 budget this year that benefits all athletic teams.
