The York Christmas Parade scheduled for Wednesday has now been postponed because of the weather. The tree lighting that was to follow the parade had already been rescheduled.
York County is under a flash flood watch and meteorologists predict up to 4 inches of rain will fall across the region by evening. Parade organizers had said earlier today that parade would go on, despite the rain. A new date for the parade has not been announced.
"We've always done it, rain or shine," Paul Boger, director of the Greater York Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the parade, said earlier today.
Boger has fielded dozens of calls today about the possibility of canceling or rescheduling due to the forecast. Several groups dropped out of the parade by noon.
The York Farmer's Market holiday tree lighting ceremony, which had been scheduled to follow the York Christmas Parade, has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Farmer's Market Director Signa Curry told the Enquirer-Herald.
