Clover High plans Moped to Memphis pageants

The annual Moped to Memphis Womanless Beauty Pageant and Children’s Little Miss Moped Pageant for St. Jude Children’s Hospital will be March 14 at the Blue Eagle Academy.

The children’s pageant will be at 9:45 a.m. and the womanless pageant will at 7 p.m. Moped to Memphis is an organization started in 2008 by Frank Falls, an economics teacher at Clover High School.

Falls challenged his students to raise money for an organization of their choice, and they overwhelmingly chose St. Jude. Moped to Memphis raises money by selling T-shirts, setting up at craft shows and festivals, hosting a themed second-chance prom for adults, getting local sponsors, doing a Shoot for the Loot contest during the High School basketball games and by holding the annual Miss Moped Womanless Pageant.

Moped to Memphis delivers a check for all the money raised each year to St. Jude in Memphis Tennessee, by driving a moped donated by Carolina Fun Machines from Clover during spring break.

Year to date, Moped to Memphis has raised $304,000 with a goal of $1 million by 2020.

The Womanless Pageant is a family event in which male contestants dress at women and compete in a variety of ways including evening gown, talent, and question and answer portions. All of the contestants represent different facets of the community, including: high school students, teachers, administrators, government employees, coaches, fire and rescue and business owners. There is also a silent auction.

The Children’s Little Miss Moped Pageant is for ages newborn to age 18, who compete for the title of Moped to Memphis Ambassadors.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door. For information, find the group on Facebook or email Frank Falls at Frank.Falls@clover.k12.sc.us.
