A water main break at a nearby construction site is causing Doby’s Bridge Elementary School to close early today, Fort Mill School District officials said.
Parents who drive their children to school are asked to pick them up at 12:30 p.m. today. Buses will begin running at that time as well, according to the district.
The water main break, which is expected to be repaired tonight, disrupted the school’s plumbing. District officials said a school must close if there’s no running water.
All after-school programs at the school scheduled for today, including FLYERS, have been canceled. Doby’s Bridge Elementary is expected to resume a normal schedule on Thursday, district officials said.

“At 11:44 am this morning, the main water line into DBES was mistakenly cut on a nearby construction site,” district spokeswoman Kelly McKinney wrote in an email. “Safety protocols dictate that a school cannot operate without water (i.e.: drinking, bathrooms, etc.) for an extensive period of time. Therefore, all DBES students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon.”
