York County temples announces High Holiday services

Temple Solel and Temple Kol Ami plan High Holiday services.

▪ Temple Solel High Holiday services will be held: 7 p.m. Oct 2 and 10 a.m. Oct 3, Rosh Hashanah services with Tashlich after the evening service; 7 p.m. Oct. 7, Shabbat Shuva; 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9, memorial service at The Hebrew Cemetery of Charlotte; 7 p.m. Oct. 11, Kol Nidre service; 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 12, Yom Kippur services with Yizkor at 3 p.m. Break the fast will be held after services conclude.

The temple formed five years ago and is an inclusive Reform congregation affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism with more than 60 members meeting the second and fourth Friday at 7 p.m. at St Philip Neir Catholic Church.

Temple Solel has a significant number of b’nai mitzvot and offers Jewish education for the youth . Sisters Ashley and Julia Fox, who were both bat mitzvahed at Temple Solel, led the Aug. 12 service. Their father and Temple President James Fox played the guitar and led a rendition of L’cha Dodi in the musical style of Bob Dylan.

The weekend of Aug. 26-27, temple hosted a member of Rabbi Without Borders, Rabbi Ilan Glazer with nearly 40 adults and children at service.

▪ Temple Kol Ami posts High Holidays information with services at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St.

Cantorial soloist is Sara Sherman and lay leaders. Sherman is an accomplished professional musician with a degree in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music. She has won accolades for her piano presentations at music festivals worldwide and has performed at iconic venues as Lincoln Center.

Schedule for services is as follows: Erev Rosh Hashanah at 6 p.m. Oct. 2; Junior Congregation Service, 9 a.m. Oct. 3; Rosh Hashanah, 10 a.m. Oct. 3; Tashlich (Riverwalk in Rock Hill), 12:30 p.m. Oct. 3; Kol Nidre, 7 p.m. Oct. 11; Yom Kippur, 10 a.m. Oct. 12; Yizkor, 12:30 a.m. Oct 12.
