Clubs lend hand to $2M bass tournament

CLOVER -- FFA members from York and adjacent counties will join others from throughout the state to team up with FLW Outdoors for the upcoming Forrest Wood Cup Thursday through Sunday at Lake Murray.

"The Forrest Wood Cup is bass fishing's world championship event offering a $2 million cash purse with up to $1 million going to the individual who is crowned the champion," said state FFA President Flint Holbrook of Clover.

The SC FFA Association will have an exhibit at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in conjunction with the tournament's Family Fun Zone and Outdoor Show Thursday through Sunday.

The FFA chapter with the largest number of members and guests registering at the FFA exhibit over the four-day period will be awarded an expense paid trip to the National FFA Convention co-sponsored by FLW Outdoors. Holbrook will announce the winning chapter Sunday afternoon before the final 5 p.m. weigh-in at the Colonial Center.

Other highlights of the tournament include free concerts each day with one featuring Tracy Byrd on Sunday afternoon. Hank Parker and Jimmy Houston Fishing Seminars will be held on Saturday and Sunday. A Youth Fishing Clinic is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
