Flotilla 26-02 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold several free Vessel Safety Checks this month, including Sunday, on Lake Wylie.
A Vessel Safety Check is a voluntary examination of vessel compliance with federal and state laws, and a courtesy check of safety equipment carried or installed on a boat. Life jackets, registration and numbering, navigation lights, ventilation, fire extinguishers, distress signals (flares, horn, etc.) and battery cover and connections are all required by law. If missing or non-operating, it can result in a citation if inspected by the Coast Guard. No citations are issued and the results of the safety check are not reported to enforcement agencies.
Checks will be held:
• Noon to 3 p.m. April 15 at Lake Wylie Marina.
