Fall Classic Oct. 25

LAKE WYLIE--The CS Motorsports 25th annual Fall Classic, formerly known as The Handy Pantry, launches Oct. 25 from Buster Boyd Access with almost $8,000 up for grabs.

"Usually it's the biggest tournament on the lake every year," said Jason Holland, one of the organizers. "It's one of the only tournaments where you can pay $60 to enter and win four grand for first place."

The tournament in past years included anywhere from 140 to 244 boats, so sponsors are expecting a big crowd this fall. Last year was the first year in recent memory the tournament was not held after being cancelled because of the drought.

The tournament runs from safe light to 3 p.m., with $60 registration before the event or $70 day of, plus $10 for the big fish pot. Winner lands $4,000 and a $2,000 bonus from title sponsor, CS Motorsports.

Also up for grabs are $250 prizes for biggest fish, smallest limit, top husband/wife team, top parent/child team, top Stratos/Javelin boat, top Champion boat and top finisher pulling a boat with a Ford.

"We try to get everybody involved, not just the top people who know how to catch them," Holland said.

Several other prizes and giveaways will be included. For more information about the event, or to find out where to register, call (704) 853-1990.

CATT fall season under way

LAKE WYLIE -- The Carolina Anglers Team Trail fall season tournament will be held from safe light to 3 p.m. Oct. 18, Nov. 1 and Nov. 22, with the final Dec. 13. All events launch from Buster Boyd Bridge Access.

First place is guaranteed $2,000, organizer Brett Collins said.

Anglers only have to fish one qualifier to be eligible to enter the final. Entry fee costs $80 at the qualifiers, $60 per team membership, $120 at the final.

Collins said the payback is 100 percent of all entry fees.

"So far in 2008, CATT has paid back over $14,000 on Lake Wylie," he said via e-mail.
