Nominations for the inaugural Clover School District Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony, to be held in September, are being accepted. Clover High School Athletic Director Carroll Hester said he encourages the Clover community to submit nominations.
“There are a lot of former Clover High School and Roosevelt High School athletes and community servants deserving of hall of fame recognition,” said Hester. “We’re excited about the process and look forward to having an outstanding group our first year.”
Longtime Clover football supporter Jimmy Bryant, a 35-year member of the chain crew on Friday nights, was instrumental in the formation of the hall of fame.
The hall was organized to honor those who have made lasting contributions to athletics in the Clover School District through outstanding achievement or service.
Bryant, a former CHS football and baseball player, said he had been pondering the idea for some time before sharing the thought with CHS head football coach Chad Smith and Clover school board Chairman Mack McCarter. Both were receptive to the hall of fame proposal.
The following criteria will apply to the three nominating categories:
Athlete: Any Clover School District athlete whose primary achievement occurred during high school participation. The nominee will not be considered until 15 years after his or her high school graduation.
• Coach: Must have coached a sanctioned sport in the Clover School District for at least five years.
• Contributor: Those who have made contributions to Clover School District athletics in some capacity other than athlete or coach.
Nomination forms are available through the Clover School District and Clover Touchdown Club websites, as well as the Clover High School front office.
The nomination forms will be presented to a selection committee that will choose the inductees. Qualifying nominees not selected will be held for future consideration.
Nomination forms should be sent to: Clover School District Athletic Hall of Fame, Carroll Hester, Clover High School, 1625 S.C. 55 East, Clover, SC 29710.
