Hotter temps equals tough fishing at Lake Wylie’s weekly tournament

Hot weather and hot water mean tough times for anglers in weekly tournaments.

“We are now in the summertime pattern,” said Erwin Gaston, co-organizer of the Thursday Night Tournament Trail with Jeremy Cabe. “The weather is hot, the water is hot and the fishing is tough.”

The team of Gene Sparks and Stephen Sparrow put together a pattern that produced five bass that weighed in at 14.78 pounds for the winning weight out of 33 boats. They also took home the big fish money with a 4.18 pounder.

Second place went to the team of Mark Humphries and Mike Carson with a weight of 12.26 pounds.

The weekly trail continues through the end of August with the Fish Off Sept. 5-6. Registration is at 5:15 p.m. at Buster Boyd Access Area. There will be no tournament July 3 because of the holiday.

Blastoff is at 6:30 p.m. Entry fees cost $40 per boat. Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express and A-1 Adams Bail Bond.
