Anglers return to Thursday Night’s weekly tournament to find lower weights tipping the scale for wins.
“It was good to take a week off to clean the boat and replace the line on my reels,” said Erwin Gaston, who co-organizes Lake Wylie’s Thursday Night Tournament Trail with Jeremy Cabe. “It must have worked.”
Cabe and Gaston finished second of 32 teams with five best fish weighing 11.40 pounds.
“It was a tough night as we only caught seven fish during the tournament,” Gaston said.

First place went to Ben Ruebel and Walt Brysik with five fish weighing 12.97 pounds.
“The lake is clear and the water temperature is hanging around 90 degrees,” Gaston said. “The baits of choice seems to be top water before dark and old monster worms after the sun goes down.”
The weekly trail continues through the end of August with the Fish Off Sept. 5-6. Registration is at 5:20 p.m. at Buster Boyd Access Area.
Blastoff is at 6:30 p.m. Entry fees cost $40 per boat. Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express and A-1 Adams Bail Bond.
