Elite Taekwondo Academy recently took part in national competition.
Under the instruction of Chris Baker, Taekwondo master, and Justin “Mr. Striker” Strack, 20 members and their families traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the 2014 AAU Taekwondo Nationals.
Competing in Olympic Sparring, Forms and Point Sparring, the athletes earned seven gold, two silver and six bronze medals, bringing home five national champions.
Lukas Donovan, 9, earned a gold medal and 9-year-olds Hunter Busque, Benjamin Lauer and Connor Love each won bronze medals in Olympic Sparring.

During day three of Olympic Sparring Teigen Mahoney, 14, and Chris Adams, 36, won gold; Tyson Brien, 11, and Ashby Callahan, 13, won silver; and 11-year-olds Rebecca Adams and Connor Mahoney, and Charles “Mr. Odie” Crossman, 57, won bronze.
On day four, Brien, Chris Adams and Devon Mahoney, 45, all won gold while competing in Forms.
The final day of competition, Devon Mahoney won a gold medal in Point Sparring.
This was Elite’s second trip to nationals since opening the academy in May 2012. Last July, Elite brought nine athletes to nationals and won one silver and four bronze medals.
