Lake Wylie anglers cast in wet weather for win

Despite so many rainy Thursday nights, anglers continue casting in weekly trail tournament.

“I hate to sound like a broken record, but my goodness at the rain,” said organizer Erwin Gaston. “It rained so hard the fish got wet.”

Gaston said even though the weather did not co-operate, the turnout was good July 31 with 37 teams.

The team of Mike Alman and Keith Porter figured the bite out as they brought in five fish that tipped the scale at 11.32 pounds to take the win.

Second place went to David Winters and Brian Huskins with a weight of 10.46 pounds followed by a close third-place finish by Mike Carson and Josh Garner with 10.36 pounds. The big fish was brought in by Rob Johnson. It weighed in a 3.54 pounds.

The weekly trail continues through the end of August with the Fish Off Sept. 5-6. Registration is at 5:20 p.m each Thursday. at Buster Boyd Access Area.

Blast off is at 6:30 p.m. Entry fees cost $40 per boat. Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express and A-1 Adams Bail Bond.
