Lake Wylie growth focus of Oct. 24 Republican Women’s Club meeting

GOP meeting focuses on local growth

The Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women’s Club will feature a program about the challenges of providing responsive services to the rapidly growing Lake Wylie community on topics such as housing, schools and crime prevention at the Oct. 24 meeting at River Hills Country Club.

Speakers will be David Larson, assistant county manager of York County; Bruce Henderson, York County District 2 councilman; Mychal Frost, Clover School District public information officer; Deputy Kim Morehouse, York County’s crime prevention /assistant public information officer; and Charles Wood, chairman of Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce.

An 11:30 a.m. social will be followed by lunch and a speaker forum at noon. The program will close with a question-and-answer session.

Sheriff to speak at Rotary meeting

York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant will speak at the Oct. 28 Lake Wylie Rotary Club meeting at noon at Good Samaritan UMC, 5220 Crowders Cove Road.

Bryant’s law enforcement career spans 38 years, starting in 1972 with York City Police Department. He joined the York County Sheriff’s Office in 1973, and served at the office until 1987, when he joined the State Law Enforcement Division. He retired in 1996.

York store honored for 4-H partnership

National 4-H Council announces the launch of the fall 2014 4-H Paper Clover Campaign in partnership with Tractor Supply Co.

The York the store was recognized for winning the Paper Clover District Champion award for being the store with the highest transaction percentage in the district, as well as winning the Class Champion award for meeting the company goals during the 4-H/TSC Spring 2014 Paper Clover Promotion. Store employees had 26.9 percent of all transactions include a 4-H Paper Clover purchase, and will be presented with a certificate and ribbon from 4-H to recognize this achievement.

The campaign is a nationwide, in-store fundraiser that benefits 4-H programming in the communities where a TSC store is located. During the 12-day promotion, the York TSC raised $1,008 for 4-H in York.

The fall campaign runs through Oct. 19.

Scouts selling popcorn

Boy Scout Troop 333’s popcorn sale is underway, with Scouts going door-to-door selling Trail’s End product.

Up to 70 percent of all sales go to the local troop.
