CHS freshman golfer heads to state tourney


CHS freshman takes on state competition

Clover High School freshman Alyssa Campbell qualified as an individual for the Class 4A state tournament held Oct. 26-28 at Wescott Plantation in Summerville.

Campbell competed Oct. 20 in the Upper State girls’ golf tournament at the Village Greens Golf Club in Spartanburg. She finished 18th overall out of 84 players.

Eight teams advanced to the state tournament.

Lake Wylie duo swings in tourney

Final results from the Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Tournament at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville, N.C., on Oct. 20 included a Lake Wylie duo.

Harold Fisher and Tom Bookmiller, both of Lake Wylie, finished 35-39 –74 in the Super Senior 65 and older (5,659 yards).

Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. 90 percent of a player's course handicap is used to determine net scores. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65+ Division.

]Tournament in memory of Clover late baby Rex

The third annual Rex Clark memorial tournament will be Nov. 15 at Jack Hughes Park in Pineville, N.C.

The flag football and kickball tournament is in memory of Rex Clark, the late infant son of Clover-area residents Charlotte and Alex Clark. Rex Clark died about two years ago of a genetic disease called spinal muscular atrophy. Proceeds go to research for SMA.

Sign ups will be 8-9 a.m. and play will begin soon after. Children are welcome, but those younger than 18 must have a parent to sign a waiver. Food, drinks and other items will be sold. Details:
