OMS eighth grade girls continue winning streak
LAKE WYLIE The eighth grade Oakridge Middle School girls’ basketball team won a sixth straight game Jan. 22 by taking down crosstown rival Clover Middle 25-21. The Lady Golden Eagles overcame a physical Clover team. Leading the way for the Lady Golden Eagles on offense were: Tiona Walls – 9 points, 8 steals, Tiffany Domingue – 6 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, Megan Bailey – 4 points, 5 steals, Shia Jones – 4 points, 10 rebounds, Emma Johnson – 2 points and defense on Clover’s best player. Tiffany Domingue was in foul trouble throughout.
• The eighth grade Oakridge Middle boys’ basketball team lost Jan. 22 to Clover Middle35-32. After trailing most of the game, Oakridge was down by 5 entering the final period. The Golden Eagles got within 2 points with 4 seconds remaining in the game.

took the inbound pass and went from one end of the court to the other and got fouled while launching a desperation 3 pointer. After a long discussion, the referees decided to put .4 seconds on the clock, and Heze was awarded three free throws. Heze nailed all three to go up 32-31. Some of the players on the Oakridge bench ran on the court with excitement, but forgot there was still time left. The team was given a technical foul, so Clover was awarded two free throws and the ball. Clover nailed the first free throw, but missed the second; the game was tied at 32. But Clover sank a long three pointer for the win. Oakridge played well on the night, but only shot 27 percent from the floor. Contributing for Oakridge:Andrez Dalton

OMS falls in tri-match
LAKE WYLIE The Oakridge Middle School wrestling team suffered two losses in a tri-match to Castle Heights and York on Jan. 20. The Golden Eagles fell to Castle Heights 70-10 and to York 52-25. Against Castle Heights, Dax Stegall and Colby Ballard scored for OMS with pins. Also, the following wrestlers had wins against York: Stegall, Claas Prikker, Lake King, Hayden Johnson and Hunter Holland.
Valentine’s Day 5K held at DSBG
BELMONT Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will host a 5K on Valentine’s Day. The Hearts-a-Bustin’ 5K Trail Run begins at 9 a.m. Feb. 14. It covers the garden’s Persimmon Trail and continues through the Seven Oaks Preserve loop that’s part of the Carolina Thread Trail.
The event is co-organized by the garden and Thread Trail. It costs $30, or $50 for a couple. Proceeds benefit the garden and Thread Trail.
Eat and run Feb. 28 in Rock Hill
ROCK HILL The inaugural Krispy Kreme Race-Run 4 Reading begins at 8 a.m. Feb. 28 in Rock Hill.
The run consists of a 4-mile loop beginning and ending at Winthrop University with a brief stop in the new downtown Rock Hill Fountain Park, where participants will be challenged to eat a dozen doughnuts before racing back to the finish line.
There will be a 1-mile Campus Fun Walk and a Kidz Fun Zone. Strollers, children and families welcome.
Proceeds go to The Early Learning Partnership of York County, a nonprofit organization, supporting health and academic readiness of children ages 5 and younger in York County.
