Two local church will host Town Hall for Hope, a nationwide townhall meeting led by money-management expert and author Dave Ramsey, at 8 p.m. Thursday -- New River Community Church, 133 Carroll Cove Road, Lake Wylie, and Lakeshore Christian Fellowship, 130 Shoreline Pkwy., Tega Cay.

Thousands of venues across the country will host the event, broadcasting Ramsey's live presentation offering straight talk about the economy, recession, foreclosures and more.

Senior gathering set for Sunday

LAKE WYLIE -- Pine Grove Baptist Church, 5415 Hwy. 557, invites all senior adults to its free Young at Heart Gathering and luncheon at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Pet fair May 2

LAKE WYLIE -- Good Samaritan UMC will host Pet Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2.

There will be pet shows, pet adoptions, pet product vendors, prizes, pet health classes by area vets and children's activities.

CLOVER -- Clover Wesleyan Church, 102 Parkview Lane, hosts Kay Ness, a neurodevelopmentalist certified by International Christian Association of Neurodevelopmentalists, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2.

Ness has evaluated and designed home programs for families with children with problems ranging from severe brain injury, autism, Down Syndrome, PDD, ADD, ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, visual and auditory processing problems, normal and accelerated, from birth to people in their 90s.

Couples invited to May 2 event

FORT MILL -- The Fort Mill YMCA and Eternal Church will present the movie "Fireproof" from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 2 at Fort Mill YMCA, 857 Promenade Walk, Fort Mill.

Couples are invited to come and enjoy an evening of dinner, movie and discussion about how to strengthen and improve their marriage. Child care will be provided.

Church hosting garden tour May 9

YORK -- Episcopal Church Women of the Church of the Good Shepherd hosts its first-ever "Backyards and Beauty Spots" garden tour May 9 to visit five gardens in the historic district and several beauty spots.

Gardens on tour: Mr. and Mrs. S.K. Lowry, 5 Wright Ave.; Mr. and Mrs. James Bradford, 12 Wright Ave.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hanlon, 208 Kings Mountain St.; Sue Ellen Lee, 7 Kings Mountain St.; and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Shultz, 212 E. Liberty St. Beauty spots for peeking: The Courtyard, 22 N. Congress St.; The Sideyard, 9 Kings Mountain St.; and The Garden at Good Shepherd, 108 E. Liberty St.

There will be a plant sale, garden shop and an art sale featuring works by local painters and other artists.

The day also includes a buffet lunch at the church parish hall, 108 E. Liberty St.

Garden tour-only tickets cost $15; lunch-only, $7, or garden and lunch, $20. Garden tour tickets will be available the day of the tour, but advance purchase is required to reserve lunch by May 7.

Italian Fest May 14-16

FORT MILL -- St. Philip Neri's 14th annual Italian Festival will kick off 5-9 p.m. May 14 at 229 Munn Road E.

This year, Thursday will be a Grown-Ups Evening Out, featuring live and recorded opera while festivalgoers dine on homemade Italian dishes.

A new feature event includes advance tickets for wine-tasting at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, presented by festival partner Grapevine of Baxter Village) in the gated patio on church grounds.

The festival continues 5-10 p.m. May 15 and 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. May 16.

Learn to heal emotional wounds

LAKE WYLIE -- Kenny Ashley of River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton's Ferry Road, invites the community to his Lay Aside Every Weight seminar about forgiveness and healing from emotional hurts and wounds.

The seminar continues from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sundays through May 17.
