The 2009 Carolina Anglers Team Trail Spring Final on Lake Wylie saw 33 boats launch competing for a share of the purse totaling more than $6,000.
Wylie teams saw CATT give $15,000 this spring, and averaged 24 teams at the Wylie qualifiers.
Chris Carroll of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Earl Rice of Shelby, N.C., finished at the top Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 18 pounds, 6 ounces. They took home $2,500. Arthur State Bank provided another $500 to the winners bringing the total to $3,000.
Second place went to Tim Chapman of Kings Mountain and Mark Leech of Gastonia, N.C., with another limit weighing in at 17 pounds, 11 ounces. They also collected the bonus, plus second place big fish for a total of $1,666.
Coming in third were Tom Russell and Doug Gilmer, both of Fort Mill, with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 9 ounces. They collected $850.
Chris Marshall of Forest City, N.C., and Van Sexton of Grover, N.C., took fourth with 17 pounds, 8 ounces and the first-place big fish at 5 pounds, 7 ounces. They took $774.
Eric Dwyer and Zack Bolick of Conover, N.C., took home $415 finishing fifth with 15 pounds, 7 ounces, and they also had the second-place bonus.
Bill Grier of Charlotte took home sixth and $200 with five bass weighing 14 pounds, 15 ounces.
The 2009 CATT Classic is May 30-31 with a possible $15,000 on the line. To enter, anglers must have fished a CATTqualifer on any lake in fall 2008 or Spring 2009. More than $70,000 was paid back this spring on Wylie, Murray, Wateree and Santee Cooper.
The Lake Wylie Fall 2009 Trail will start in October.
CATT also in the beginning stage of organizing a new trail for 2010, teaming up with Green Boat & Motor in Spindale, N.C. The lakes will include Wateree, Murray, Norman and Wylie. Entry fee will be in the $120 range and will involve six qualifying tournaments. A team will only have to fish four qualifiers to be eligible to enter the championship. First place at the championship will be a bass boat.
