TENNIS

Altieri named Tennis Player of the Year

ROCK HILL -- Chase Altieri of Lake Wylie had a busy junior year at Clover High School. Playing tennis for less than three years, Altieri was awarded The Herald all-area tennis Player of the Year award.

He has played in the No. 1 position on the team for two years and had an 11-1 regional record, also winning him the 4A Regional Player of the Year voted on by the regional coaches. Altieri was the only player in the region to be chosen to go to the state finals.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, a Merit Scholar, USC Junior Scholar of Excellence and Junior Marshall. His GPA is 4.7 and class rank 15th. He has been invited to attend this summer's Congressional Student Leadership Conference and the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in Washington, D.C. He is considering a college major in communications, environmental sciences or advertising/marketing.

Altieri will spend summer competing in USTA tennis tournaments and visiting colleges for his 2010 enrollment.

Junior camps to begin

River Hills Country Club is offering the following summer Junior Tennis Camps:

• For ages 4-6: 9-10 a.m. June 15-18, June 29-July2, July 20-23 and Aug. 3-6.

• For ages 7 and older: 10 a.m.-noon June 15-18, June 22-25, June 29-July 2, July 20-23, July 27-30 and Aug. 3-6.

Cost for age 4-6 is $50 per week or $12.50 a day. Cost for ages 7 and older is $100 per week or $25 a day. For more information, 803-831-1493.

SOCCER

Club seeks players

Tega Cay-based Carolina Select Soccer Club, one of the state's most successful competitive youth soccer programs, is seeking a few more players to round out its program. Though tryouts have been completed, a couple teams can add players. Carolina Select's of teams are coached by trainers and coaches with both national and international experience.

The U15 Boys Gold Team is seeking at least two more players. The team is made up of 13 and 14 year olds, and previous competitive experience is preferred. E-mail jwright@kilpatrickstockton.com.

Camps slated for ages 7-16

Pantuosco's Soccer Camp will be held for ages 7 to 16 from 9 a.m. to noon June 22-25 at Harold C. Johnson Middle School in York and July 6-9 at Clover Community Park.

Registration fee costs $80.

Extended camp hours for ages 10 and older is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration fee costs $125.

RODEO

B&B Arena ready for July rodeo

Clover's B&B Arena will host a rodeo July 10-11 and is looking for athletes to compete in bareback riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, goat tying, break-a-way roping, team roping, calf roping and bull riding. Call in Monday July 6.
