Paintings on display at club

LAKE WYLIE -- The acrylic paintings of Patricia Williams will be on display through the end of August at River Hills Country Club.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Williams, 23, moved at an early age with her family to Gibson, N.C. During her teenage years, she became smitten with art and painting, learning about the art form by watching Bob Ross on PBS.

Subsequently, she was guided by the work of Thomas Kinkade and developed her style and preference for acrylic.

Although landscape subjects are her favorite, she also has painted still life, people and architecture.

"Landscape subjects have the ability to bestow a calming and relaxing mood upon its appreciative viewers," she said.

She credits her parents with playing a key role in her interest and pursuit of art. They remain her biggest supporters, she says.

Williams earned a bachelor's degree in art and master's degree in architecture. This month, she starts another master's program at UNC Charlotte, majoring in urban design and master planning.

Although painting is her hobby, Williams says it plays an important role in her life.

" Painting is very relaxing and therapeutic," she said. "It is one of my ways of working out stressful situations, and it creates an adrenaline rush for me as I go through the process."
