YORK -- Mrs. Azelene Thompson Jones, 89, of 15 Green St., York, S.C., departed this life for her Heavenly life on July 23, 2007, at her home. Born Dec. 18, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Thompson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York, with the Rev. Grady Sharps officiating. Burial will be in Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was employed at Huntley Mills for many years and after leaving there she was a domestic homemaker. Azelene was a faithful member of Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church until her health failed. She was an active usher of 52 years.
Mrs. Azelene was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Jones.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are her daughter, Anna Burris (James) of York; nine sons, Henry Jones (Elizabeth) of York, Ronnie Jones of the home, Rev. Marion Jones (Rev. Cathy Jones) of Sharon, S.C., Randy Jones (Lisa) of York, Robert Jones, James Jones (Wanda), Melvin Jones (Beverly) and Walter Jones (Lynette), all of New York City; William Jones (Shirley) of Pennsylvania, 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Olivia Jones; special cousin, Ruth Thompson of York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today, July 27, 2007 at the chapel of Wright Funeral Home in York.
