Pope to speak Feb. 27
LAKE WYLIE Greet the newly-elected S.C. House speaker pro tempore Tommy Pope at the Feb. 27 Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women's Club’s luncheon at River Hills Country Club.
Pope, a York republican, is the second highest ranking office in the House of Representatives. Pope will talk about his new responsibilities and how his new position will benefit District 47. He has served three terms as S.C. House Representative and worked on committees such as the judiciary and ethics committees.

Human trafficking focus of March 3 meeting
LAKE WYLIE Learn about human trafficking in the Charlotte area during the noon March 3 Lake Wylie Rotary Club meeting at Good Samaritan UMC, 5220 Crowders Cove Road.
Joseph A. Gallion, deputy special agent of homeland security investigations of Georgia and the Carolinas, is the guest speaker.
Rotary International’s goal is to build awareness about human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children. Rotary also is an advocates for changes in the laws that govern human trafficking and to support victims by helping them escape the life.

Art guild showcasing Clover artist’s works
GASTONIA The Gaston County Art Guild presents a retrospective of Clover resident C.M. Kakassy’s original printmaking, “Looking Back,” March 4-April 8 at Arts on Main, Citizens National Bank building, 212 W. Main St.
Originally working in sculpture, Kakassy’s eye for form and space led her to painting, photography, hand-made papers and original printmaking. She has spent years working in printmaking media – intaglio, serigraphy, relief and lithography.

Fashion highlights club luncheon
LAKE WYLIE River Hills Women’s Club’s luncheon is March 18 at River Hills Country Club.
Social time begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. and the Macy’s Fashion Show program at 1 p.m.
Lauren Gregory of Macy’s will present spring fashions for vacation and cruise wear. Club members will model the outfits.

Clover Walking Club to meet
CLOVER Clover Daybreak Walkers walking club meets at 6:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays at Blue Eagle Academy parking lot on Knox Street, weather permitting.
This walking club is for beginners, but all are welcome. Wear walking shoes and comfortable clothing, and bring water and sun protection. A walk leader will plan and lead each day’s walk.

Lions selling directory ads
LAKE WYLIE River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is selling ad space in the phone directory that reaches more than 3,000 Lake Wylie area residents and businesses. Proceeds go to local charities, including River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS.
The directory is available online and includes phone numbers for government services and officials. It also lists charities, churches, hospitals, utilities, schools, newspapers, River Hills social and services organizations, and children’s activities. One copy of this directory is delivered free-of-charge to all River Hills residents and to directory advertisers each year.

Sweet Repeat seeks donations
LAKE WYLIE Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation seeks donations, especially furniture, for its thrift store at 4082 Charlotte Highway.
The store does not accept mattresses, computer items or televisions (unless flat screens). Donations are tax deductible.
