Why is it that we keep electing officials who promise to clean up Washington or change the politics as usual only to find out that they are tormented by ego, sex, drugs, power and a host of other maladies?

Why do we continue to vote in the incumbents who then give themselves pay raises, a government health care system that covers them 100 percent and they take to the grave, yet they won't give us one because many of them say the government can't be trusted to run the health care system?

They give themselves a pension system, yet rail against pensions for everyone else, insisting instead that we make our own choices for retirement and fund a private vehicle. Why is it these elected officials can be accused, tried and convicted of a felony and they still get to keep their taxpayer-funded pensions?

In the world that you and I live in, try getting convicted of anything and see if you keep your job - let alone your health care and your pension!

Let's see - just in the past year we have had our elected officials jailed for accepting $20 million in bribes, on trial for having $90,000 in cash from lobbyists in a freezer, accused of soliciting gay sex in a public restroom, arranging for and paying for the transport of high-priced call girls for getaways, refusing to testify under oath to congress...am I missing anything?

There is that old adage "you get what you pay for" and boy, are we paying and paying and paying. Meanwhile, the corporate cronies of these elected officials are setting up shell companies in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, hiring 5,000 contractors to support our troops in Iraq and then never paying into Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or the unemployment system. Then, to add Middle East petroleum to the fire, they hire one of the number one fugitives in the world, pay him millions (our tax dollars) to run cargo flights in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the while he is the number one arms dealer to our enemies.

When asked how this could happen, their response is a garbled montage of sound bites that tell us nothing and covers for their bosses.

Yea, we got what we paid for and we'll probably keep on paying. You gotta love it!

Not!
