DUI charged in fatal crash

An Illinois teen has been charged with felony driving under the influence in a crash that killed a Fort Mill teen, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision was reported at 1:20 a.m. Monday on Old Bailes Road and Hwy. 160 East in Indian Land, said Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin of the patrol.

Anthony Guzzonato, 19, of Morris, Ill. was heading south on Old Bailes Road when the Chevy Blazer he was driving went off the right side of the road and overturned, Gaskin said.

A passenger, Anthony William "Will" McGee II of Fort Mill, was ejected in the crash, authorities said. McGee was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

Guzzonato was not injured in the crash and was charged with felony driving under the influence, Gaskin said.

Another passenger, a 18-year-old from Matthews, N.C., was not injured in the crash.

This wreck remains under investigation.

Plant in Tega Cay

The Tega Cay Beautification Committee is holding a work day Thursday, Oct. 23. Tega Cay residents will be planting bulbs in the median of Tega Cay Drive. Beautification members will be selling T-shirts and sweat shirts (with the Tega Cay logo) at the Tega Cay Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 25. Proceeds from the sales will be used to purchase flowers and shrubs to plant in public areas of Tega Cay.

The annual Town of Fort Mill Christmas parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and the town is seeking participants. Groups may enter a float or a unit in the parade.
