Mothers take center stage at NarroWay

NarroWay Productions, a faith-based theater company in Fort Mill, will present its first Mother's Day variety show, "Tribute to Mothers," next weekend at its theater on Carowinds Boulevard.

The show will be a tribute to mothers, said Regina Jackson, director of communications for the production company. The show will include live music, comedy, dramatic scenes and a special kid-centered vignette similar to the television show "Kids Say the Darndest Things."

A special candle lighting ceremony will be held in memory of mothers, grandmothers and mother figures that have passed away. Guests at the show can submit the name of their mother for recognition during that time as well, Jackson said.

NarroWay writers and directors K. Rebecca Martin and Yvonne H Clark came up with the idea for a mother-centered show and filled the cast with volunteer actors, actresses and performers from around the Carolinas. NarroWay has a volunteer cast of about 300 people. The group offers about nine different shows each year, as well as children's productions and field trips.

Some people even come from as far away as Kentucky to be part of the NarroWay cast, Jackson said.

"We wanted something where people and families could plan to do something nice for their moms and have it be fun and special for the whole family," Jackson said.

NarroWay Productions was created by Martin and Clark in 1996. The group began with performances in "Kings Theater" in Regent Park, an outdoor amphitheater.

They later moved to their permanent location on Carowinds Boulevard, where they are able to offer theater productions along with a meal.

The Mother's Day variety show is no exception. A meal will be offered at each of the shows three performances at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 8 , and noon and 5 p.m. Saturday, May 9.

"I think that's one of the things that makes NarroWay stand out," Jackson said. "We have different meals for each show and a lot of thought goes into that process. You get the all in one experience. We feed you, then give you the experience of a lifetime with great quality, Christian entertainment."
