The finalists for the second annual Italian Idol talent contest have been chosen - but you have to show up to find out who they are.

The finalists will take the stage during the three-day Benvenuti! Italian Festival at St. Philip Neri Church, the largest of its kind in the area. that begins Thursday, May 14, and runs through Saturday, May 16.

The finalists, from the tr-county area, will compete for cash awards and prizes before four celebrity judges.

"We wanted to take them all," said one of the preliminary judges. "It was really a tough decision making those final cuts."

The judges this year are Roger Cullis of Cullis Entertainment, a producer of concerts and TV shows; Joe Davis of the Joe Davis Band; Marc Hanna of the WRHI Morning Talk Show; and John Tosco, producer, musician, founder of a Charlotte music teaching studio, and "Charlotte Magazine's" Impresario of the Year, 2004.

The winner will take home $200 and a performance spot at the September TOSCO Music Party, Charlotte's showcase of talent.

It's an impressive springboard for many Carolinians who have gone on to successful music careers. The second prize will be $100 and the performer's choice of either a full spa day with lunch or a two-hour photo shoot and two professional portfolio photos. There will also be a third prizewinner, as well as a youth category winner.

The Italian Idol Finalists will compete at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, the final festival day, on the Outdoor Stage.
