City hosts Little League tournaments
Local Little Leaguers are getting ready to test their mettle against players from around the state.
"This is an exciting time for Tega Cay to have the Little League tournaments to be held here," said Ed Davis, one of the coaches for the Minors baseball team. "Hosting the tournaments is exciting for the players and the parents and a great opportunity for we coaches."
According to city Parks and Recreation Coordinator, Joey Blethen, the Coach Pitch teams of 7 and 8 year olds will play June 18-21 at Runde Field.
The following weekend, the Minors, consisting of 9 and 10 year-olds, will compete.
"Each tournament will be composed of two Little League teams composed of players from the Fort Mill and Tega Cay areas. Those players were selected based on their regular season performance in the TCFM Little League," Blethen said.
The local teams will take on Little League teams from Irmo, Trenholm, Fairfield and Lake Wylie.
"The winners of those tournaments will go on to play in the state tournaments," Blethen said. "Everyone is encouraged to come and watch the teams play."
Tournament schedules will be posted online at www.tegacayrec.com.
